NACRA 5.7 Rigging  Bottom

  • Looking to replace wire rigging for the first time since 1984. I'm over-due by a lot. Is the Salty Dog rigging deal at $268 good, or should I be looking elsewhere?

  • Where are you?

Salt water boat? Go to a local rigger who will make it up custom (that way you are sure of the steel quality).

Fresh water boat? That is the cheapest you will find it, I trust Murray's a little better but I haven't heard any issues with salty.

  • I checked Murray and was having trouble even assembling the parts. This is way easy with everything in a single package. Not much comes that easy with these 30+ year old boats.

    Fresh water boat.

Ordered a set of standing rigging from Salty Dog.
The owner answered the phone and took my order.
I was a pain in the butt customer with custom stuff and parts shipped to different states.
This was three years ago, and the rigging is well made, and of good materials.
I have raced with it in the Pacific, off Ventura CA.
Full recommendation, and do call him to set your expectations.

  • Thanks for the personal feedback. I have wire halyard from them, but had not ever gotten any heavier wire. After joining here, I realized I may be on borrowed time with my 32 year old standing rig, and I'd rather not experience a failure with consequential damages or injury.

  • I haven't sailed my boat yet with the complete set of standing rigging I just got from Murray's, but I have checked all the dimensions and it is all correct. Their standard wire is black vinyl covered and the fittings are all well done and cleanly finished. Because my boat is one of the very earliest 5.2's I worked directly with Stan Cowell who is very knowledgeable and quick to respond. Here is his direct email; stan@murrays.com these guys at Murray's have been very helpful with my project on multiple items. The complete rig, with everything including bridles, diamond wires and shrouds and wire halyards was about $700.
