Bought a Nacra 5.2 and have a few questions. Hull ID #, trapeze rigging  Bottom

  • Picked up boat in lower Al. and will be sail in NW Fl.
Can’t seem to find ID numbers, checked behind rear crossbar and on the transom on both sides. Any alternative places to look? The boat does have aft glued deck pads, but they are several inches aft of the beam, and I am afraid to pull them up.
Boat was not rigged for trapeze. Noticed in the manual, mast hound has two holes and more rivets than mine, which has one hole and less rivets. Is this ok for single trap?
Sorry if this has been covered, no luck searching these topics.
    Happy Days,

  • I've never seen one where the ID wasn't on one of the transoms. You probably won't need it anyway, but it would tell you when your boat was manufactured.

As far as the mast hound goes, one hole does not mean you can't put trapeze wires on it. You would have a large bow shackle for the shrouds and headstay and on each side of the shroud thimbles you'd have small D shackles to attach your trap wires because the trap wire thimbles might be too small to just put everything on the one shackle. Another way would be to have the pin of the bow shackle go through the trap wire thimbles. Whatever works. Just be sure the trap wires won't rub on the shrouds when loaded and remember when you're trapezing, the mast is rotated towards you and the trap wires are at a slightly higher angle than the shrouds making it easier to keep them from rubbing against anything they shouldn't.

Assuming that is the original mast and mast hound, and there's no excessive corrosion and/or electrolysis, don't worry about it not being strong enough. Manufacturers change stuff all the time without printing new manuals.

  • I've seen boats where the transom id number has been covered over during a repair or a new application of gelcoat.
  • Thank you windflower and shortyfox.

  • On the 5.2, the HID is typically on the starboard deck, at the transom facing fore/aft. I believe they also have a stamped HID under the front beam as well. The older 5.8's were like this and I tend to remember the 5.2's being similar.

  • Bring that thing over to Juana's September 8-10! I know of a N5.0 and another N5.2 that will likely be there.

  • Thanks Texastuma....I hope there is a spare under the beam, the rear deck is covered in soft pad.
Hey Rattlehum, sadly will be out of town, but will be ready for them next year!

You are good with the single hole hound - it's plenty strong.
Second hole was for spinnaker work.
The shackle on the hound should have plenty of room for another thimble on each side, outboard of the side stays.
Double trap is just one thimble with both lines coming out of the thimble (fore and aft) and going down to the deck on each side (port and starboard).

The boats were not set-up for spin originally... The large 3/8" hole is for standing rigging as you mentioned, but the second upper 1/4" hole is for the trap wires. Single bow shackle that carries 4 trap wires. You can place the traps on the standing rigging shackle, but they can bind up with the shrouds and make large pop noises when they settle after a tack.

  • spammer1I couldn't find the HID on the old boat I bought a few weeks ago. After removing a none slip tape a discovered the number on the starboard hull, the very end (stern) of the top outside surface. My number TRRC2328M82F. Obviously it was made in 1982. The sail number is 2328, so everything matches nicely.

Just thought I'd quote your post because posting as Guest it will be deleted. Note the user-name is already Spammer1
