Anchor Pins - H18  Bottom

  • I just checked out my anchor pins on my H18 and one was noticeably bent. I went out and got a new set, and was told by my local hobie dealer that the pins were not to be tightened all the way down, and to allow them to rotate slightly. (Not tight enough to spin around freely, but not snug either.) This goes against my logic when dealing with any part that has a bolt attached to it.
Just trying to get an idea of the correct way to reinstall them.
    Thanks in advance..
  • I like snug, angled to the tang. That's my small engineering mind. Any flop can't be good as those things (as you know) can get a lot of shock load.

Btw, I have a boat with bent pins and I believe them to be as strong. Just bent cause the last owner didn't align them correct.

  • Bent pins are weakend pins. Angling them to the tang is the correct angle. Snug is good but you should allow for a little movement so as not to crack the surrounding lip.

Here is a very good thread on the pins.
