Sails back from Sailcare.com  Bottom

  • Attached are some pics of my sails after the Sailcare treatment. New zipper was $50, cleaning and re-resining for the jib was $50 and $100 for the main. They repaired the clew of the jib, where all the stitching was popping, repaired the chafe from the shrouds, this kind of work was about $40 an hour.

They look great. The chafe was really bad on the starboard side, and non-existant on the port, thus the white repair panels.

  • Nice sails....I like that pattern.
  • Quotere-resining for the jib was $50

    what is "re-resining"?
  • Their site uses this langauage, "impregnating the cloth with resins and setting these resins with controlled heat."

They put the starch bake in. I am not sure how long it lasts, I had one sail a couple years after this treatment, and it remained stiff.
  • interesting, what's their site?

I would THINK shape has much more impact than stiffness... but maybe stiffness matters too?

  • :p
  • Stiffer sails are flatter with fewer wrinkles and hold their shape better. It probably makes less a difference with full batten sails, but on the club's Lasers and 420s, I found stiffer/newer sails were noticeably better performers.
