Hi all, the mast base rivets have pulled out of the mast on the old H16. As the holes in the mast are now open slots, repair with rivets seems improbable. It's a recreational boat so prime concern is integrity and being water tight. Ideas are JB weld or real welding. Any experience out there with this? Improper stepping was cause. John

Drill new holes in new locations or simply cut 1/2" off the bottom of the mast to start with fresh surface to drill and install new rivets - steel.

Just move over 3/4" in each direction from the original rivets and pop in new ones. Don't forget to clean the mast and base at the mating surfaces and apply a bead of sealant so that you won't get water in the mast.

I agree, just drill new holes adjacent to the holes that ripped out and install new stainless steel rivets. There is a foam plug inside the mast a couple inches up from the bottom, so it will still be water tight.
I would only recommend trimming 1/2" off the bottom of the mast as a last resort. Doing so will throw off all your shroud length settings, mast rake, etc.

Thanks for the replies. Offset rivets sounds like a good first plan. I will check the integrity if the foam plug too.
