  • Hello
I have a copy of Catamaran Sailing, A Step By Step Guide on VHS (yes, VHS). It's a pretty good introduction to cat sailing. It was made in 1992. It's complete with cheesy music, clothing, and hair styles.

If you need this, I'll send it to you for free. I'll even pay the postage. However, I just ask when you're finished with it, you pass it along to someone else on the forum who needs it.

Just send me your address and I'll mail it out to you.

    Thanks

    Brent

  • Thx, so much. Yes! I would love to check it out.
Please send to 443 Sellar St.
    NewBlaine, AR., 72851 victory
  • I'll send it out tomorrow!
  • That's a great idea! Keep it up.

Note that that video is still being sold on DVD ($30 at Murray's) so copywrite is still in effect. Passing it around is probably OK but copying is not. Similarly to the Rick White DVD I have.

    Regards,
    Dave

  • anyone have "cat sailing from the 90s" book sitting unused?
  • Yeah that was what I was getting at.

Sorry that book is like gold, the only people getting rid of them are those who sell their cats. Although I would be willing to send you the one pic in Phil Berman's book that shows 'proper trapezing technique'. It features 2 70's dudes with thier junk hanging out of thier harnesses **shudder**

i bought a hard back copy of rick's previous book, "catamaran sailing" for $5 off amazon 2nd hand books, used to be in a texas library apparently...

it was written in the 80's and is 85% the same as cat sailing in the 90's

was impressed enough with the book and amazon's 2nd hand book service that i then bought cat sailing in the 90's

i've already lent it to a h16 sailor who is frustrated by never being able to beat me in a race, i still read cat sailing in the 90's when i'm in the bath

as rick says, when the wind picks up i am able to change gears and sail away from him with my extra sail trim knowledge...plus it must be said on a boat that is better upwind, in light wind, in tacks and more forgiving downwind and reaching hehe

  • I've got that book wolfman. I know the pic, and it does cause a little shudder. Guess they didn't have photoshop when that book was published.

  • First time I saw it I was sure it was a joke with a double meaning. I'm still pretty sure of that. I'm convinced that anyone who has that book knows about 'The Picture'. :)

That's because Google wants you to buy the book. You can only view so many pages. Open the link, go to the table of contents (trapezing) Chapter 8 and click on that link within the table of contents. It will take you to page 90. Might want to clear your cache. Should work for ya. . .

  • Try going to contents at the top and then the chapter on Heavy Weather Sailing. Guaruntee you will regret it! 'Excellent Trapeze Form' indeed... the guys balls are front and center in the photo! Someone should scan that and post it somewhere, it is an icon of 70's sailing. ;)

  • Or try this. Do a google search exactly like this(leave off the quote marks, it will be first result):
"These sailors show excellent trapeze form. Phil Berman"

  • Argh, what was the original point of this thread again? This is not something we want a beginner to see, or anyone really - kind of like a car crash of publishing

  • Oh, come on dave were just having fun, and I really learned alot.lol
  • I'm all for fun **shudder**. ;) Really there is something to be learned there:

    1. Always make sure your boys have a home
    2. Always take a look at your manuscript at least one more time before sending it to publication.
    3. Afros and aviators do not work in the beachcats ensemble.

  • All kidding aside, has anyone else noticed a lack of pfds in many of the photos in this book. The lack of pfds in the photos and the junk snaking out of the guys shorts are the only real complaints I have about this book though.

    Different times for sure.

Imagine running this advertisement today? It's a Hobie Ad sheet for the Hobie 3.5, lets put a 12 year old girl alone in the Pacific Ocean on an 11 foot catamaran without a PFD, I'm sure everything will be ok.

Note: PFD is safely tied to tramp straps so it won't be lost.
