Trap handles at eye level  Bottom

  • As a newbie I am curious about the correct placement of the trap handles. It seems like whenever I am sailing and looking towards the bow the back trap handle always seems to be right next to me at eye level. I haven't run into it yet nor has it hit me in the face. I'just curious to know if I am likely to be hit in the face or in the eye by the trap handle in the future.

Is there something I should do to move it out of the way?

    Anybody have a similar experience?

    Thanks!
  • Are they not anchored to your shock chords? only time ive been hit is when the shock chord snapped...mine are held pretty far out as well. Not a great responce, but try looking thru the pics on this forum to see if your rigged in the same manner. Here is a link to the rigging pics:

    hope this helps!

  • Yes, they are a face/eye/tooth hazard. There are several ways to secure them but this is a common one...

It is hard to expalin but you tie a clip on the end of the bungie, before you secure it to the trap line (adjustable line, not the metal wire) this way you can secure the trap ring.

Sorry for the crude drawing.. but this is a picture (the clip is done in red so you can see it).

  • Andrew,

Thanks for the drawing. One question, what does the clip (red in the drawing, white in the picture) connect to?
  • Oh sorry. I have updated the picture.

that clip is then clipped to the bottom of the ring. this cause the ring to not flap around in the wind...
