Prindle 18-2 - New Hulls or Sell for Parts  Bottom

  • Ahoy!

I have a Prindle 18-2 that was destroyed by Lake Michigan high water, big storm, and probably a seiche. The de-rigged boat was lifted off the beach and banged around the shore for about a week while I was gone. I've already done the hard part of second guessing my choice of "a safe place to keep it". Now it is time to move forward. I see two choices:

    1) Find new hulls.
    2) Sell what's left for parts.

I haven't heard good things about finding hulls. Something about the molds getting cut up? But if there is a source, I'd be happy to hear about it.

The sails, rigging, tramp, etc.. are all in great shape and would be useful to someone.
The best part of this boat (besides being really fast and fun) was that it has custom-made aluminum wings that attach to the crossbars.

Does anyone know if it would be easy to sell the parts one by one or if there are people who would be interested in the whole package (everything but the hulls).

Here are a few links to pictures (if someone can teach me how to embed them, that would be cool):

    thanks for any ideas,

  • Mast will fit P18 or P 18/2
    Wings are desirable
Beams will fit P18/2 or P19
    Tramp 18/2
    Boom 18/2 or P19
Main sheet block and jib blocks multiple boats
    Rudders P18/2 or P19
    Rudder castings any Prindle
Maybe you can find a P18/2 for sale, probably easier than finding hulls only.
  • Hey Andy, welcome to TheBeachcats.com,

I deleted the extra posts, these forums are old and sometimes you'll get warnings from modern browsers and mobile devices but the posts do go through, just refresh the page when you get an error message.

The image links you posted were links to pages on Google Photos instead of the url's of the actual images. So they work as links (I changed them to links, but not as IMG tag url's.

It's actually difficult to dig out the actual image url's on Google photos but it's possible with browser "developer tools". You have to have developer tools installed and then right click the middle of the image and choose "inspect element" then find the real url, which is actually a background image the way they do things.

You can click the edit button to see what I did to embed your images.

  • You didn’t include pictures of damaged hulls. I think you might be surprised at just what can be repaired. The rest of the boat looks nice enough that it might be worth repairing if you can’t find hulls.

  • Hullflyer: thanks for the info on the parts. Hopefully I can get them in use.
Damon: thanks for cleaning up my mess. I'll click n check from now on.
Tim: You asked for it, here's a photo. It looks about like this from stem to stern on both sides https://photos.app.goo.gl/UFNetas624JUHue56 || I thought the same about the magic of fiberglass repair but the guys at the boatworks place said it would be at least $3500-$4000 and would add at weight and they couldn't say it would be distributed evenly. I loved it, but not that much.
Scott: I'll reply to your PM a little later.

  • I know someone who can fix it, but I think it’s what they used to call a Cat-E. Beyond economical feasibility. Good luck finding some hulls or another boat.
