  • Thinking about installing some deck mat and am looking for some product suggestions. What products
are people using that they really like and looks good?

    Thanks,
    Pete

  • I am looking to do the same. I like the patterns of Hydroturf. Sort of concerned about life.

  • I used HydroTurf on the hull of my Tornado where I sit at the helm. It is awesome and in my opinion it is a safety item. I will never slip off the boat with that there. My area is about 12 by 18. I'm considering using it on my son's Nacra along the edge for trapeze traction. That boat is very slippery. Murrays has it. Keep it covered when not in use. I've heard various stories about UV damage. Some say it degrades in sunlight, others no. Mine has been exposed for 2 seasons and still looks good. I got the grooved version. I hate slippery boats and used to use that white traction tape. Another benefit is that it is comfortable to sit on during long tacks.

  • I used hydro turf on my supercat and on my sunfish deck
Has held up on the sunfish for 3 plus years and still looks great and no loss of bond with the fiberglass

  • This past summer, started out buying some grooved and a couple of false starts.. then I bought smooth hydroturf with the 3M backing (used dark gray) after reading another post. Don't have to worry about lining up the grooves with a two piece installation with the smooth. Removed the trampoline, made a template of the deck with come clear mylar bought on amazon (https://www.amazon.com/gp…asin_title?ie=UTF8&psc=1). Discovered hulls aren't exactly symmetrical! Ended up using the templates to cut the ends near the near the cross bars and the rest to the general shape. Cleaned the deck with soap, water, then mineral spirits. I removed 2-3" of the backing on the factory straight edge and applied it to the water side of the hull using the non-stick as a guide, about 1/2" below. Then removed the rest of the backing, and stretched it across the hull, rolling it down with a rolling pin. The front section laid on top and marked the seam and cut, then applied. Hair dryer to heat near the seam and stretch to match it up. To remove the excess on the tramp side I ran a razor down the trampoline grove. I rough cut the dagger board openings with a knife, then gingerly used a dremmel with various bits to cut the shape of the openings.

After one season the stuff still looks great and it greatly improves the boat. Can provide pic's if you would like.

  • Steve,

Would really like to see some pics. What got me thinking about this was a Miracle 20 at a recent regatta
    using this(https://www.ebay.com/itm/…97624:g:H~sAAOSwPn1dL82I)
Looked really good on his boat and seemed like it had good traction. I can see that lining up the pattern could
be challenging. He also mentioned using mylar for the template. Thanks for all of the tips. Had not thought
    about stretching it.

  • I put on the HydroTurf 3 years ago and still perfect adhesion, even on the textured top-deck.

  • Ditto on Hydroturf, fantastic adhesion after 4 years and zero degradation. Also doesn’t leave any residue gunk when removed!

    how does it stick?
  • 3M backed is sticky. Apply and bond increases over time. I can peal it up with some force.

Always wanted to find some metal grommet for the trap bungie as it is digging into the hydroturf a bit.
