Ok I understand the reason for one what I don't know is why all cats don't have one and what the benefit of adding one would be any help comments ?

these boats were not originally designed with over-sized jibs and the concern was they might implode
designers learned and built in higher tolerances to the structures
your boat will continue to float (with proper use)
