  • Anybody interested in a sail on lake Pend Orille?

Could turn into a club type event if 3 or more boats show up.

Pick a day and place and I will be there with my Tornado!

  • xango8Anybody interested in a sail on lake Pend Oreille?

    Really?
There are parts of that lake that are so deep, well, even the submarine base there couldn't find the bottom.
You drop a shackle in the water and it could go for hours.
I have sailed Couer d'Alene and Hayden, but even the bridge at Pend Oreille gives me the willies.
The subs sounded the deepest part they could at 1,150 feet (350 m) deep, but it narrows and keeps going.
Can you sail under the bridge at Pend Oreille?
    From where do you launch?

What difference does the depth make? Once the water is too deep to stand in then 10 feet or 10,000 is all the same. icon_biggrin

  • DamonLinkousWait, there are submarines in Idaho?

During World War II, the south end was the second largest naval training ground in the world. Built as a result of the Japanese attack on Pearl Harbor, the training station is now Farragut State Park. The lake is still used by the Navy's Acoustic Research Detachment to test large-scale submarine prototypes: the significant depth gives acoustic properties similar to the open ocean. As it is inland, it is easier to keep secrets about the research.
While President Ford was in office, he had a relative who was stationed there and was busted for pot possession.

It is a creepy dark lake.
    Dark and deep.
Imagine yourself sinking for a very long time because you fell off without a life vest.
    Dark and cold.
No one can hear you scream. icon_lol
Check it out in Google Earth.

There is a seaplane base there too.
Even the bridge is creepy, it is long and turns in the middle.

I have to disagree. As a kid/teen we used to spend quite a bit of time in Montana,(Kalispell Flathead Lake) & Northern Idaho, crossing into the States at Bonners Ferry & camping around the Sandpoint area.
Hot sunny summers, some good beaches.
The lake is deep, but so is Crowsnest Lake & Waterton Lakes in S Alberta.
If you can drink standing up...
