Gudgeon replacement 5200 or not.  Bottom

  • I just repaired my transom on my 5.2 (embarrassingly stupid). I am pitting my gudgeon on and was wondering, should I pit 5200 around the the gudgeon? Or should I use a silicon sealer around the bolts? I Any thoughts would be appreciated. I would love to finish today and sail this weekend.

  • 4200. You might want to pull it for some reason.

5200 is forever and almost never should be used.
  • Well I would hope this would be forever. That may be why I had a big chunk ripped out of the transom instead of just the backing plate. But do I want to place around the gudgeon or just silicon the bolts?

  • 4200 gudgeon plate. Tefgel or antiseize bolt threads. Bead of 4200 at bolt head.
  • Tefgel is amazing product

3 years after application (and around 450 sails in salt water) I recently replaced my broken dolphin striker and the assembly has multiple grades of aluminum + ss screw&bolts.... no corrosion - tefgel was a glob of yuck... but still there.

was looking for (unsuccessfully) my tube this morning.. as i was replacing an exploded washer on my rear beam ... had to settle for lanacote
