Pirates on the Pungo  Bottom

  • Check out http://www.piratesonpungo.org/bash.html for more details and for registration.

Registration is $40, shore passes are an additional $40, but they include all meals, and 3 open bars. (One Friday night sponsored by a local rum and moonshine distillery, a beer and wine cocktail hour on Saturday afternoon, and an open bar at the seafood dinner buffet Saturday night.

This is a super fun party regatta with food and drink aplenty. Even though the location is a little off the beaten path, it has historically been one of the most visited spots on the intercoastal waterway. Protected water sailing with an average water temp of 68 and an average air high of 80 sounds like a good time to me.

I have raced this party regatta in a monohull for the past two years, and this year I figured I would try my (new to me) NACRA 5.8 in the multihull division. I know that there will be an F27 trimaran to try to beat, and I have heard that there are going to be a few Hobie 16s and an 18 to race against this go around. Ideally, a couple of you guys will show up and race too.

All proceeds go to the Pungo District Hospital Foundation a 501c(3) nonprofit. Entry fees are most likely tax deductible, although don't take my word for it since I'm no CPA.

Here is a map of the location:http://goo.gl/maps/N2M4K Please note that this picture must have been taken right after Hurricane Irene, there are 2-3 more docks and a breakwater at the marina now.
