Cleaning a very Dirty Vinyl Trampoline  Bottom

  • Hello all. I wanted to share a cool trick I found today. I recently bought an H18 in pretty bad shape. The restoration is going well, but for the entire time I could not get the vinyl trampoline to clean.

Given the expense of a new trampoline I worked hard. Bleach, pumice scrubs, and various chemicals. All of them were of no help. The ugly black stains and dirt would not lift. On the verge of taking the hit to buy a new one I tried a last hope. This trampoline was REALLY dirty.

Tilex Mildew Root Penetrator (Sodium Hyochlorite) and Bleach Mix. I sprayed it on the trampoline, walked away and totally forgot about it. 15 min later I came back and without scrubbing, washing, or doing any work the entire trampoline virtually cleaned itself.

No apparent straining or damage to thread. Literally miraculous.

If you need to clean a vinly trampoline give this a try.

    Good luck!
  • Good to know I'l need to give it a try on the old H17. Anyone got any good ideas on how to replace old velcro. on the flap that covers the lacing on a diagonal cut tramp. I was told it was to stiff to re-sew anything on it.

  • If it is too stiff to sew with a machine or hand stitch buy a sewing awl and stitch with that. It cannot be tougher than the saddle leather the awls are designed to handle. Hobby stores such as Hobby Lobby and Michaels carry them or you can order from many places online.

  • Do not give this a try if you are using a chlorine bleach like clorox or the store brand bleaches. In fact, don't ever mix anything with Tilex.

    Chemical interactions
Mixing a hypochlorite bleach (Tilex) with an acid can liberate chlorine gas.

Chlorine gas is fatal. It desolves lung tissue and skin. It is heavier than air and stays low to the ground, posing a threat to pets and crawling children.

Use the stuff below to clean your tramp to keep from having any "unaccountable" pet deaths in the neighborhood. You can wash vegetables with this solution and safely eat them, and it will clean your tramp like you won't believe.

Google it and you may find it cheaper on the net. Dilute at least 10:1 as instructed on the bottle. Other folks here have used it and were quite pleased.

Rider_55 is on it, I will add that you need a ball point needle- one that is not sharp on any surface of the needle point. A sharp needle will cut the fabric of the tramp and cause problems by the end of the season. Roll the tip of the awl's needle between your fingers and it will tell you if it is sharp or not. Most good sewing awls include a non-sharp needle.

  • I will second both points Bob made on cleaning chemicals. The 303 works! And mixing cleaning chemicals can make you very dead. I used to make chlorine and sodium and you don't want to meet them in any form other than the table salt we all eat too much of.

  • You really shouldn't mix ANYTHING with household bleach unless your name is Walter White.

However you kind of lucked out on this one
QuoteTilex Mildew Root Penetrator (Sodium Hyochlorite) and Bleach Mix.

All you did was create expensive bleach. Both Tilex Mildrew Root Penetrator (1-5%) and Chlorox Liquid Bleach (5-10%) are the same thing.

Basically you used straight bleach, which will definitely do some cleaning/whitening!
  • All,

Good catch, the wording could have been better. When I say 'mix' it was the product itself. There was no rando mixing chemicals.
You can take or leave the advice, but this worked extremely well and I am very much alive.
  • Good tips, going to try this weekend in NH. Thanks
