Tramp Lacing  Bottom

  • So the color coordinated 550 cord lasts a few hours on the Tornados tramp lacing. Some eyelets have some resin in them which was a wear spot. They will be clean out. Which ropes have the best life? UV resistance is important as it gets some sun. The metal eyelet's may clear 1/4 line. Thanks. BTW it is sailed in rough water with heavy crew.

  • i use robline dingy control line on my tramp lacing (and many other locations)
it has a dynemma core for strengh (stronger than steel) and a jacket for chafe mitigation
  • Most tramp builder/suppliers sell 1/4" polyester double braid for lacing.
Robline is my favorite sheet stock, but pricey for a tramp (for me).

The key to getting your tramp tight is vice grips.
If you have side or center lacing, start at the front and move back.
Use a pair of vice grips to grab the line as it exits a grommet, to hold the tension while you move down a set of grommets.
For the back lacing, you need two pair of vice grips, (and start in the center if you can).
Work from the middle to both ends, using vice grips on either sides.
If you are re-tightening a tramp with old lacing line and it is stiff, soak it in clear water for a bit.
I have had to re-lace my tramp every other season.
If you have to replace the tramp, a bias cut is well worth the extra cash, if it is available for your cat.

  • I really like 7/64 dyneema. You do not want anything with stretch since the tramp itself should have more than enough, and the small size is still plenty strong enough. It also takes uv very well.
  • Thanks guys. The vIce grips and I are heading to the beach this morning.

We tied the ends to the cross bar bracket brace. It's a bit thin, but that's whats there..
