Approximate Hobie 14/16 Trailer Weight?  Bottom

  • I am planning to register an old steel trailer ( maybe homemade) for my Hobie 14. I understand they need the weight. I would think about 300 to 400 lbs, am I in the ballpark?

  • I think so, don't have any real knowledge though.

  • The boat is in the 400lb ballpark- H16 hulls alone are a 320lbs plus your frame, rig and whatever box of smelly wetsuits is strapped to the trailer. And of course the spare tire :)
A typical steel trailer for one of these will be around 300-400 lbs; a home-made one will likely to be heavier unless you are a metal fabricator.
The registry cares most about the GVW, so you will tell them the combined weight of the trailer plus the maximum load it can safely haul.
Listing your GVW as 1000lbs is a safe bet. It's better to overestimate than underestimate.
    Hope that helps.

  • Hey David
You'll be fine at 300lbs, you won't even be close to the next level where your trailer plates $$$ go up our boat trailers are in the minimum category in most or all states at
