This is a race I'd be interested in doing but there are a lot of logistics. Providing a ground crew sounds great, if all that crew is doing is moving a trailer and cheering the team (hopefully). What happens when you have an injured sailor in leg 1, or have a breakdown? The list of people I'd want on my ground crew is pretty darn short; the flip side is I'd have a darn hard time convincing those people to fly to NJ for a weekend of ground crew. Add in the hassle of a stop, cost associated etc. and this gets more difficult to add to our calendar. Entice us with a casino sponsor :)
I'd score the race on total elapsed time, sort out the stop for the slower boats but we'll aim for a straight shot. Yes 136 miles is a serious distance, but hopefully for most of that you have beach you can stop on if you break and we can manage >17kts in the right conditions for an 8 hour day on the water.
Thank you for proposing this and working on the organization. We'll drum up support when things are a little more formalized.
