prindle 19s are pretty mean boats, one of the faster boats in the "dead boat society"...especially when they are MX'ed :-D
Curious if this boat was purchased in/around dallas? I recall seeing one a week or two ago for sale.. had a blue stripe from bow to stern on the hulls.
I would suggest doing a very good look over the standing rigging before sailing, possibly even replace it all before you take it out.
Here is a thing someone told me to check out
On the Pre 89' P19's they had no internal sub-decks at and in front of the front crossbar .... after 89' is when I believe they started installing sub-decks to stiffen the bows up. What you want to do is rub the flat palm of your hand on the inboard side of the hull just in front of the front crossbar ... feel for any waves/wripples ... if you find any that means the hulls have been "working" .... that is something you DON'T want to find .....
Check the front crossbar at the point that the dolphin-striker ends ... this is just at the in-board side of the hull. Look for any small cracks ... if any are found it means the crossbar is flexing up and down ... NOT GOOD .... when my front crossbar failed I found a used one ... and cut 18" pieces out of the old one ... cut the "luff-track out , making a "C" ... then I drove this "C" section inside the replacement crossbar to add extra strength/stiffness ... (an idea borrowed from a early "Nacra" fix since they suffered from the same issue ....)
Check the rudder blades ..... Performance Catamaran made upgraded longer eliptical tipped rudder blades ... since when you were on a screaming reach the OEM short squareblades were too short ... the bows drove down/the sterns rose up .... and all of a sudden you had no steering ... you could wiggle the helm back and forth ... but to no effect .... Sometimes the older longer P18 OEM Blades were retro-fitted since they could be found used for cheap ....
If you do have an older model with no sub decks/bulkheads forward of the front crossbar, you may want to consider a N6.0NA bowfoil to help stiffen the bows some.
Since you are sailing with your 11 year old son, i have to ask what y'alls combined weight is? If it is around/below 325lb you guys are in for a fun ride in 10+ knot winds 8-)
There is quite a cat group around "surfside beach", i think they have their own facebook group if you are into that.
