I pulled the term from long-range shooting, where the rifle barrel is bonded (bedded) to the forestock to reduce movement and therefore increase accuracy.
In this case I was refering to the idea of a layer of sylicone inbetween the hull and the crossbeam to increase stiffness and eliminate chafe...when I pulled off my crossbeams there was a layer of very fine sand in every spot where the two surfaces did not match perfectly; with every flex, no matter how minor, the sand was wearing and forcing the joint into looseness, also with corrosion as nitrodub pointed out. I'm just worried about sepparating the parts the next time I need to. I don't want to tear out the 'glass at the joint.
