Reply to: Damaged front beam area
Wow, that was a poorly done job for sure!! That explains the extra port too, looks like both bolts were done the same way. The fibreglassing is likely not a HUGE deal. Time consuming and messy but not overly difficult. Look at some of the fibreglassing videos on youtube, maybe pick up a book 'The Fiberglass Boat Repair Manual' is a pretty good one. You may want to talk to performance cat, but after you have fixed the hull my first thought is to embed a nice big stainless washer inside the hull to distibute the load and a stainless bolt to screw the strap bolt into. Not sure what is supposed to be in there now or if it is just tapped fiberglass. Anyone? Also might be a good time to remove and fill the front port too, since you are going to be doing the glassing anyway... Might be cheaper and easier to get someone local to do it for you if you aren't comfortable with it. Most sailboat shops are very good at repairing things like this. Cat shops even more so! :) How do you tell the difference between front and rear beam straps? I thought they were all the same.edited by: Wolfman, Jan 09, 2010 - 09:30 PM
