The Ventura Sailing Club hosts the Multihull Ocean Racing Series in conjunction with the Pierpont Bay Yacht Club. There is an MORS trophy for overall dominance in three races through the Santa Barbara channel:
June 22, 2019 Frenchy’s Rum Run starts at the Mandalay buoy and proceeds to Frenchy’s Cove near the west end of Anacapa Island, and then returns to Ventura Harbor to finish. NOR and entry info is here: https://venturasailingclub.org/nor-frenchys-rum-run-19/
July 13, 2019 The Milt Ingram Trophy Race starts at the Mandalay buoy and this year circles Anacapa Island to port (counter-clockwise), coming up the coast to finish in Ventura Harbor. NOR is here: http://pbyc.org/boating/racing/ Entry form is here: http://pbyc.org/wp-content/uploads/2019/05/EntryForm2019-for-print.pdf
August 17, 2019 The Tri-Point Anacapa Ocean Race has a reputation for consistently good weather, The race starts at the Mandalay buoy and proceeds to take oil derrick Gina and Anacapa Island to starboard (clockwise), sometimes in a single tack. Once rounding the west end of the island, you are on a beam to broad reach nearly 20 miles back through the channel to the harbor finish. This is an exciting race for beachcats as the extended reach back to shore is across the windiest part of the channel, is rife with sea creatures, and everyone is sailing basically the same tack (including the monohulls). NOR is here: http://pbyc.org/boating/racing/ Entry form is here: http://pbyc.org/wp-content/uploads/2019/05/EntryForm2019-for-print.pdf
The second two races require that your beachcat be at least 18 feet long (LWL) and we suggest some offshore sailing experience. Certain personal safety gear is required, and your rigging must be recently refreshed. If you have sailed offshore, but never raced offshore, the beachcat group will help you understand the rules and best practices to have fun on the water. The Mandalay buoy is approximately 2.5 miles offshore from Ventura harbor. Some of the cat sailors from other states RV camp in the marina parking lot the night before, paying a modest fee.
