I attached a roller plate and roller to the top of the ginpole, I found these at a local boat store. I opted to go with a strap after a rope snapped on me, forunately no damage. If you can, make the plate adjustable up and down. If you can't, set plate high up ginpole so strap does not make contact with top of pole when exiting roller.
