Catamaran Sailing
Catamaran Pictures

Bill Mattson

They came, they looked, they liked. Thanks for all of the supportive emails regarding our premier issue of On The Wire. I guess we need to keep 'em coming.

A big thanks to those who have submitted their Places To Sail. I know we have way more readers and places out there, however, so let's get busy and build a nice directory. I will try and get these entries sorted on a weekly basis.

This month, Geoff von Wollenberg writes a compelling account of some nasty weather during a sailing trip to Galveston, Texas. Some of you may recognize this story as a "reprint", since it originally appeared on the Hobie Mailing List. We include some pictures though, as if our cover photo is not depressing enough. Personally, I enjoy Geoff's writing very much, and hope he is a regular contributer.

Be sure and check out Kim Miller's Guide to Batten Tapering for Hobie Catamarans. This is about as detailed as it gets, so it should provide interesting reading for those of you who really want to tune your boat to the max.

Barbeque lovers should enjoy this issue, as we show you how to cook both shrimp, and personal water craft. Tami Shelton provides an excellent beach recipe for the former and we provide the ultimate solution for the later. (We could refer to them as Jet***s, but that one's a trademark.)

As I stated in our last issue, this site is taking some expense to maintain. For this reason, we are soliciting for advertising in an attempt to keep the site free for our readers. If any companies decide to step up to the plate and post ads, be sure and patronize them in return for bringing you continuing issues of On The Wire. This is merely an attempt to keep this site going, and not to make money off of other folks' work. Depending upon the revenue generated, we will be paying for submissions, including those already published. This just seems like the "Hobie Way".

Enjoy the issue, and remember that we are always looking for content. Drop us a line if you have anything to submit.

Sail fast, sail safe,

Welcome to the October issue of "On the Wire". It is a great feeling to know that this E-Zine has received such great reviews from our fellow Hobie sailors.

We've got lots of great ideas for future issues, as there is a bounty of information from readers such as yourselves, and information contained on the "Hobie E-Mail list".

As with any venture, lessons can be learned, such as don't let Bill Mattson write your Editorial. I hope economically we can continue with this product, and I'll for sure be writing my own Editorials.

For my part, I'll be reporting on add on items I've picked up during my sailing years, modifications to my boat I plan on doing (soon as I figure out how to attach those Barco-loungers), and medical advice on body part re-attachments (which I'm now a pro at). Since I sail non-competitively, I'll leave the issues of batten tuning, etc. to the experts.

Please enjoy this issue, and by all means, Get out on the wire!
