Cat trax for hobie 21 se - will they work?  Bottom

  • Hello,

Will cat trax work for a Hobie 21SE? I'm seeing two cat trax sizes listed which are 8 and 8.5 foot. I measured my Hobie today and from center line to center line it is 8.5 foot. I'm concerned the cat trax are too small for the 2SE. I hope not because I don't know if there are other options.

Has anyone used cat trax on a 21SE?

    Thanks
  • They make cat trax for pretty much every boat out there, even the 10 foot wide tornados. Just give florida sailcraft a call and ask if you are unsure. (to order you have to call anyways)

If the 21se has a 8.5ft beam, then the 8.5ft trax are the ticket, make sure you order the cradles as the ones without cradles are kind of a pain in the butt...i found out the hard way.
  • The size and shape of the bottom of the hull of your boat is the concern, not the location of the cradles on the axle. You can move the cradles. My F18 cradles are much wider than the ones for my previous nacra 6.0
  • The 21SE has a beam of 9' 7" and my Cat Traxs are about 8' 4" center to center of cradles.

I brought my cat traxs in '89 new with my boat and they since look new. They are a very good investment. Only one flat tires over the years. icon_smile

I have always wanted a second set of cat traxs as the boat is heavy and would move easier by spreading the weight on sets of cat traxs.

  • I had a Super Cat 20 and got a longer axle, put a wheel on the inside and out side of the cradle to help with the weight and it worked really well. I thought about 2 sets but this solution was easier and less expensive, and allowed me to spin the boat on the beach if necessary.

  • you can simply cut your axle and sleeve it to adjust for a wider boat.

you can call the manufacturer of the wheels and have him ship you a sleeve or you can simply source your own alum tube
  • The sleeve that they sell to widen the cat trax is expensive and a lousy fit. Go to a local metal supplier with your axle and you will find a better fitting sleeve for way less money. I bought a set off cat trax that someone shortened to use for a jet ski. I bought a piece of tubing and re-lengthened them. I used eye bolts to hold them together so that I could use the eyes to tie them on. This weekend I took them apart so they fit in the back seat of my truck. Cut cat trax are really handy.
