Broken Mast Step Hinge

When our mast came down, it took the mast hinge with it. Despite the color, the mast hinge on the P-Cat is cast aluminum. I made the replacement out of 6061-T651 aluminum. Unfortunately I started it by tracing the old part onto the scrap sheet of 6061 I used. In the end I had to re-machine it so many times, I should've just started with a fresh design. It would've resulted in a prettier part.

I tested it with a spare mast base, and everything works smoothly. It locks for raising, and allows the mast to rotate freely once it's up.
