Sail delamination by windstorm

I have a jib for my Hobie 18 that got caught in a windstorm.
The mylar lining or mylar part shredded, the nylon part looks fine. I know I can replace the sail, but is there a workaround to replace the mylar function? Obviously one needs that to catch the wind properly, but could a person coat it with something that would seal the nylon to make the sail useful? I don't race this boat, just pleasure sail.
