I run the lines from the (near) end of the pole to the main beam at the hulls, wrap them around once and tie them off loosely so they're easy to undo when the boat's on its side. I imagined using two lines to the upper hull, fore and aft to stabilize the pole in position, but I usually get by with just one over the upper hull and tied off to the main beam at that hull. I have to climb out the pole, hands near the end, and hoist my legs up out of the water(usually over the pole) to get all of my 160 lbs working.
