Righting Pole - Dagger Well-Style

I built this pole after a couple of failed attempts to solo right my Hobie 18. It's a derivative of the Gary Friesen "Solo-Right" I saw on Youtube. Works and stows great! The aluminum I used was sourced from Sietech, the company who makes high quality dollies and racks for Lasers, etc. I had the small "T" section welded on to help displace any loads brought on by the righting force (note: the pole support line carrys most of the weight when using this devise, NOT the pole or the hinge).

Essentially, when deployed the hinge slides into the space between your daggerboard and dagger well and the small "T" section rests directly on the keel above the daggerboard. (Helps to visualize your boat on its side). Then, the pole support line which runs through fairleads in the pole, gets clipped (via carabiners) to loops I have permanently tied around my crossbar corners where they meet the hulls. Once the pole is set up, you grab your righting line and creep out on the pole to increase your righting leverage until the boat is righted.

The blue mesh pocket you see laced underneath the forward end of the tramp is a Lacrosse head mesh. The rear of the pole gets bungied around the deadeye and clipped to my rear tramp lacing. The pole is easy to deploy and it doesn't rattle around underneath the boat when stowed. And yes, the pole floats.
