We received the information below from the son of the builder:

(George W. Carr) built every one of them (1100) by hand - that particular one 44, was his personal boat for a couple years until he changed the styling a bit. The 44 is quite literal - that was the 44th Star Cat built. It's extraordinary to see one in such shape. The boats were built in a shop in Jackson, Mich. That particular one was made in the first location which was very tiny and I was only 2 yrs old at the time. Just a little history in case you had interest - I haven't seen one in excellent shape in quite some time.

Member morgancox added the following information about the Star Cat.

It was built in Jackson Michigan by the late George Carr. He was kind enough to allow me to build my own when i was an eager teenager. I loved that clunky boat and sailed every chance i got. I'd sail it out onto our local lake and sleep on it at night by myself when i was in high school. He sold a handful into Florida, but most were in and around Michigan. It was heavy and slow as you would expect.
