We have jib halyard that is a continuous line with an S hook that hooks the sail and then goes through the ring and hooks there. Sometimes it hooks, sometimes it does not. Sometimes it unhooks and sometimes it does not. It is very frustrating and can add 30 minutes to rig or de-rig especially if we have to use the crane ladder. Sometimes it works like a charm. We are unsure how to make it consistently hook or unhook.

Is there a better system we can rig? With hook at bottom of the sail? Or some way that we do not have to use a ring near the top of the mast. Or are there any magical tricks to easy hooking and unhooking?
