Prindle 19 mast hinge alignment help

Im ready to elongate upper port hole towards the middle on the hinge..that hole never lines up..with mast up..you can barely get the pin in when mast is down
Its to high by a full diameter.. shrouds are always 3 holes down...the hinge is all bent from the pin going in super tight
By lifting mast up with a pry bar to align holes.. 2nd question..the mast base has the upper holes on a angle in the plan view in the X direction (further rearward)With the port side hole being further rearward...seems made this way. Any idea why?
I purchased a new hinge from murrays.. same issue with hole alignment.. so I figured I can elongate the hinge hole..maybe.
Any one done this or is this a side stay issue being preset to 3 holes down while standing mast?
Are you supposed to move stays to top postion and have someone push mast to starboard side to get the pin in?

I am not entirely following, but the way I step the mast is i usually leave one side stay somewhat loose, say at the top hole. The other side is left as is and rarely gets removed.

Once the mast is up, the forestay gets put in the same pin as usual. Then unhook the hinge and twist the mast to its natural position. Then I pull down on the trapeze lines on the side that has the pin in the top hole to tighten the rig/mast to the same pin as on the other side.

When taking down, it is the reverse of this.

So in a nutshell, when putting the mast up, at least one side stay should be loose.

Thx! Loosening the side opposite of the hinge hole that was mis aligned
allowed the hinge to line up. Suprised I did'nt think this thru..my nacra has a different hinge setup
