I bought a "ready to sail" G-Cat last weekend and am now finding lots of parts for it. (:

I am looking for best places tot find parts for this boat. Need a jib sail, shrouds, forestay, main sheet system, tiller bar to start. Any pointers you can give me would be most helpful.

You might check nearby clubs. I know we have 2 or 3 on the back lot that haven't moved in years. If you are looking for new stuff places like Murrays might be able to help.

jib - chip @ whirlwind sails for the best price to value sails - good products for the money and reliable - wont dump your order and never contact you like slowsails did to me

tiller bar ? you will need to be a bit more clear on this one

the cross bar between tiller extensions will probably be easier to make than source, but asking around in forums and groups is a good start

a tiller (connected to the rudder casting) for a gcat will be much harder to source - out of production, was never an "on the shelf" item at any store and rudder castings fail over time - and the gcat plastic "snap" attachment (that locks the rudder down) also fail with use / time and exposure so owner don't give them away

In the Kemah area, Bahama Rigging does a fantastic job on standing rigging. About the same as Murrays, I think (or so), but you have the added benefit of dealing locally and getting good stainless (316).

KO Sailing has some miscellaneous stuff, but not as much into the cats.

Boater's resale shop is the junkyard of sailboat stuff, locally. Be patient, and prepared to search. It's all used stuff and mostly for bigger boats, but there's a lot there you can make work. You probably won't find any rudder parts that'll work. If you can't repair what you've got, you may be in for a swap to a Hobie type system. Dunno.

Texas City Dike Yacht Club - nice guys; they are even patient with the likes of me.

No local shops I know of that do Cat sails as a rule because they're not as competitive. Whirlwind, as stated above is probably the most competitive, etc.

That is Han's page (the developer/ manufacturer of Gcat) - he could have parts from time to time for sale and is a pretty decent source -

I have owned 2 G-Cats. A 5.0 fixer upper that I ended up falling in love with so I bought a tweaked out 5.7. The 5.7 is still one of my favorite boats of all time.

Known issues:

1) Soft spots on decks. Especially right behind front crossbeam and where the capt. commonly sits.
2) The captured bar that side stays are anchored to under the lip of the joint between top deck and hull is too short in older models and could lead to dis-masting. Old bar is 3 or 4 inches long. New style bar is 7-8 inches long.
3) All parts are hard to come by. But especially rudder parts. The aluminum casting for the rudder is a well known point of failure and it is rare to see one in good condition.
4) Multiple mast lengths available. A lot of 5.0's were made for the rental market and have a shorter mast to de-tune the boat. Cant remember the exact lengths.


G-Cats are a unique boat. The front trampoline, high volume hulls and boardless design all combine to make a fast, fun, easy to sail catamaran unlike any other.

Probably to far for you to go but Coastal Watersports on Bradenton Beach used to have a rental fleet of G-Cats. A couple of years ago I scored some rudders and the owner had a lot of parts in his garage. The two piece tiller assembly, can be rebuilt with slight modification. The stainless arm that connects the two aluminum pieces can be changed to two arms on each side of the aluminum tubing eliminating the need for those troublesome inserts. Good rudder castings can be reinforced at a welding shop. I have never heard of anyone adapting a rudder system from another cat but there are many solutions if you get that far.
