Mystere F16 made in France in 2001. Is it possible?

Dear All,
I hope that you keep safe and well!

I'm going to buy a cat. Not too big not too small. I've booked a catamaran
https://photos.app.goo.gl/tgDqSSj5naYe3U4g9

ID number FR RNS 00026E011. I asked Yannick Sansoucy - Mystere catamarans canadian manufacturer about spare parts. I've sent this photo and he replied me that he had never made F16. It is amazing! ID no. says that it's really made in France in 2001...
Have you ever seen this model? Who was a manufacturer?
Is it possble to be F16 - without daggerboards?
Where would I find spare parts?

Help, please.
All the best from Poland.

Parsley, welcome to TheBeachcats.com!

What did Yannick say about that boat? It's labeled Mystere F16 maybe something done in France but not Canada? If you are looking to buy that boat, what do the owners say about it's origins?

When the F16 class was getting going, a lot of them were "one-offs" or even home built, so this could have been an effort to build a class boat. G-Cat did a similar thing with no boards for the F16 Class.

The rudders look like those I had in a 6meter Mystere. There were a few Mystere cats that had wings, but they were very rare.
I have spoken with Y Sansoucy a few times, he quickly had a new tramp made for my 6 meterXL (20’ x10’).
The boat you are looking looks like a Mystere 5.0. There were a few of them for sale here, mostly in Quebec. I almost bought one, but ended up with a Nacra 5.0
We need some more, better photos.
Yannicks company,
Yannick also is the dealer in N America for a cat called Espadon 16 https://www.nauticexpo.co…roduct-65992-482536.html
I do not believe these would be competitive racing the F16 circuit, they are skeg designs, & heavier than most F16.
There is a company in Quebec making sails for these. Google Voiles Saintonge, the websit will be in French, but you should be able to have google translate to whatever you need.

We had several of these boats racing at Spring Fever back in the day, and a few other regattas around the southeast. The boat was an "out of the box" spinnaker rig and board less, which was a nice package back in the day when spin boats were rare.

The F16 class was just starting to develop, and this boat preceded F16. I'm guessing it met the formula box rule and hence was labeled "F16".

Thank you very much for reply!
In your opinion is it a good boat? Do you remember how it sailt? The boat costs 3000 USD. Sails and hulls are in good conditions. Spinnaker looks like new. There is a spare tramp. I'm not going on to start in races. I have 4 kids but from time to time i will sail onehanded.

Yes, you are right. Yannick noticed the same - ruddders probably are the same.
There is a name of manufacturer - three leetters - RNS - in ID of boat. But i can't find register of French boatsmanufacturers...

Is it a good boat? Ask 10 different folks here and you will likely get 10 different opinions. Here is my two cents . . . define what you want your boat to do. If you want to recreational sail, with one or two of the kids, this will be a fun boat. Likewise, it is easy to sail one up. The kids will love flying the spin, and no daggers are a plus. The wings are rare and nice and will add to the family experience.

On the other hand, don't expect to take out all 4 kids and expect much performance. The folks who owned them like them for their simplicity, it is kids friendly, the fact that it was rigged for a spin, etc.

Should make a nice starter boat, and if you love for cats grow, as well as the kids, upgrade to the next level and sell this one.

the mystere 5.0 was / is a great boat! i would love one (i have a 5.5 and 6.0)
i used to sail with a mystere 5.0 and that boat was great

that boat in the pics looks brand new and if it is in 1/2 as good a shape as it looks it will be awesome

it is not huge so the wings are a big plus when sailing with others

3k usd seems fair for a spin boat in good shape with good sails (In our neck of the woods at least)

I listen to older and smarter folks. Thank you very much for help. I still don't know who produced this boat however i decided to make a transfer.

Found this site that I believe is the same boat advertised

https://www.inautia.com/u…0534868555654514552.html

The sail logo is not what I recall the Mystere we may be familiar with. I think it is a European off-shoot and parts may be hard to find.

poor quality image but those look like mystere rudders and similar wings to the OP's link/image

It is odd Yannic doesn't know anything about this boat -
It is impossible there is a french or spanish company of the same name (Mystere) with identical foils and similar design (it still looks like the OP's image has rounder sterns than the N America version but i could be wrong, it could be the angle of the image)

The pic below of the OP's image is not the Mystere of N America logo

Yannic is the son
perhaps dad (Yves Sansoucy), made some deal and allowed another company to use the molds or something like that and Yannick is not aware?

QuoteWhere would I find spare parts?

Yves, Yannick and Yves daughter have been pretty good over the past dozen years.

there was a time when they were out of business right after i purchased my 5.5 (2009 i think)
but then they started selling parts again, and then sails, and then boats again.
Newer versions have different beams and mast step and of course updated body and now foils if you want to fly.
I see now they have partnered up and have a bunch of roto-mold options and only 2 fiberglass models

I know when covid hit they were not able to get parts from their suppliers (HeadHunter from this forum tried) but i have no other data than that
