Your cool cat sailing videos

I think we had a thread for sharing cool sailing videos we've made. Can't find it, so... time for a new one?

After not sailing for about a year, my red cat is back in the water.

First outing with my 10yo son was fun, but we had to work to re-find our tuning. We're flying a bit too high in this video, so rudders and main foils poke out of the water, ventilate, and steering is damn hard as it "rattles". But fun fun fun.

Second session -- a local friend named Carl comes for his very first foiling outing, and gets a couple swimming lessons too.

what is the story with towboat us? were you in a channel?

Side question: do you have a boom?

I've been playing around with a Phantom 3 drone, with the intent of getting some cat sailing videos of my friends. One issue is just trying to find them on the small display of my phone. The other is that, while this thing will fly in 20 mph winds, I'm still a bit paranoid about flying it in much wind which requires a bit more control and battery management experience.

But here's one in some light air that I think came out pretty good, except for a couple of glitches:

This next one is pretty amazing, and may change your perspective of the number of dolpins in a pod you see. I've cued this up at 28 seconds, as I think this is the most impressive part. I did not mean to film above the water, so that part is just the camera lying on the deck. But I wish I would have. Check out the number of dolphins you see on the surface and then how many you see when I dunk the camera:

Bob's a local cat sailing legend. Gettin near 70 now or maybe over haha, but still out there battling and occasionally pitchpoling having a great time. I'd like to see more drone shots. I think lake Isabella Carl has one.

That foiler looks really hard to control. One of these days I'd like to give it a go.

icon_smile thank you! We weren't on the main channel. I saw him late - this boat requires so much focus! - and I think he was #$^& on this mobile phone, he looked up, saw us and swerved. In the video you can see his wake making a large S.

The Whisper does have a boom - CF boom, with mid-boom ratchet for mainsheet (like a 49er skiff). The mast rotator connects to the boom. No cleat on the mainsheet, it's a "sheet mainsail for balance" boat.

Looking good!!! I've got to get a head cam one of these days.

Below is Carl's video on Lake Isabella. It is one of my favorites:

A rare central NC late June wind forecast of 10 - 15 mph lured me to the lake a week ago. Enjoy...

I saw his hard turn: He was movin fast - scary $h*t

any cat skipper has a lot going on but your speeds are higher and your gear is much more finicky = all your attention. your crew needs to be more alert on that one -

We have a lot of poor motor boaters around here - the risks are real
A cool CABB race - non-foiling C boards – https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=6Aw-WYxgip8 . (On that race, a Prindle 16 cleaned everyone's clocks on elapsed time, and corrected. And John keeps organizing fabulous racing in Miami. Come join!)

A quick after-work/school training run on foiling Z boards - https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=M8v2ElfGg7c&t=53s

Less cool, more "hard work" a brief practice session - trying to shake off the rust – https://gopro.com/v/qzg1LaBEP7Zpp
