What model Hobie is this?

Last summer someone at our club brought this Hobie to the marina, but havent seen it sailing ever. I heard its for sale and told a friend of mine who might be interested that its a Hobie 14, but today had another look, and saw its not a 14. So what is it?

Yep, Hobie 13.
We have 2 of them at the club, fun for the kids.
They are/were build at the Hobie factory in Europe.
Cedex, France I believe.

A few years ago, I restored them and was looking for
the proper way to set the lines, downhaul, jib-halyard etc etc..
Searched the web for a manual/info, even send a mail
to Hobie Europe, no succes.

The ones at our club were build in 1989.

Yes, Damon,
On the registration-plate (?) it states Hobie 13 and build number,
and built at Hobie Europe, Cedex, France.
They both have multicolor sails wit a Hobie logo on it.

I'd really like to see some pics of the boat. I had an H14 back when I was a teenager many moons ago, was familiar with the 14 and 16 but I've never heard of a 13 until now. I would guess that they weren't marketed in the States.

Like I mentioned, they were built in France at the
Hobie factory in Toulon, Cedex.

Today I went to the club, to see somebody had
already taken the masts down of the Hobie 13's.

Seems we have 2 different models at the club.

http://www.thebeachcats.com/gallery2/main.php?g2_view=core.DownloadItem&g2_itemId=125723&g2_serialNumber=5

There's one with a curved front beam an one
with a straight.

Straight one is from 1989

http://www.thebeachcats.com/gallery2/main.php?g2_view=core.DownloadItem&g2_itemId=125709&g2_serialNumber=4

Curved one is from 1993/4???

http://www.thebeachcats.com/gallery2/main.php?g2_view=core.DownloadItem&g2_itemId=125742&g2_serialNumber=4

This patent sticker sat on the front beam of the curved one.

http://www.thebeachcats.com/gallery2/main.php?g2_view=core.DownloadItem&g2_itemId=125714&g2_serialNumber=4

They are both produced at Hobie cat Europe in Toulon, France.

Rudder-castings are the same.

straight
http://www.thebeachcats.com/gallery2/main.php?g2_view=core.DownloadItem&g2_itemId=125720&g2_serialNumber=4

curved

http://www.thebeachcats.com/gallery2/main.php?g2_view=core.DownloadItem&g2_itemId=125739&g2_serialNumber=5

Hull shape is the same except for the upper decks .

http://www.thebeachcats.com/gallery2/main.php?g2_view=core.DownloadItem&g2_itemId=125729&g2_serialNumber=4

Some more pics.

http://www.thebeachcats.com/gallery2/main.php?g2_view=core.DownloadItem&g2_itemId=125711&g2_serialNumber=5

http://www.thebeachcats.com/gallery2/main.php?g2_view=core.DownloadItem&g2_itemId=125737&g2_serialNumber=4

I restored the one with the straight beam a while ago, it needed a
complete bottom-job and some minor polyester repairs.
The curved one only needed ropes and lines setup.
They both have similar black anodized masts.

Today it was blowing a gusty 22 Knts at the club, not a good day to
take out the big T solo.
Instead a was busy sending away blo****** kitesurfers from our
private propriety ... icon_smile icon_wink
So the pictures were made in a rush.

Grtz , André

I love them, the curved beam looks like a baby 18. And that bay looks like fort Walton beach. But I bet it's much colder!

Wow, those cats look really cool!!!! I'll bet they are a lot of fun, and the size would make it a fun single handed boat for sure. Hobie 13, the "Fun Sized" cat!!!! Thanks for sharing the pics.
Tim, yes that does look a lot like Choctawhattchee Bay at Ft Walton Beach!!!!

Well Tim,
thats definitely not a palmtree you're looking at but
a pollard willow.
As for cold, this morning at 11 o'clock it was blowing
13-16 knots gusty, temp was 51 degr F.
Certainly not sub-tropic, but we go out sailing as
long as the weather permits us.
