Did this just happen? Don't see the news anywhere else.

Mr. Alter led and extremely productive and inventive life and changed our world. He was featured in Fortune Magazine just last month.

Wikipedia already has him passing yesterday, March 29th but no details.
A true waterman
My heart is sad, I found Hobie cats as an 9 year old kid in Ruskin FL (suburb of Tampa). Moved and found them again as a college guy in the mid 80s. Since then I have sailed and raced them for 25 years. Hobie loved his products and the people that bought them. He gave so much stuff a way by sponsoring regattas and everything else, he was as much the brand as the boat. The proof is that all the other companies paled in comparison in the 80s. Hundreds of boats at regattas was common all over the country. I know there are a lot of Pro Prindle Nacra etc guys here, but without Hobie we not have a beach cat culture.

Surf boards, skate boards and of course the Hobie Cat. Then on to apparel, sun glasses and everything since. What a true pioneer he was. RIP.

Many of my close friends are from all my time with Hobie products. Cheers Ricardo.

He was a true patriarch of beach cats. I doubt this site would exist if he had not lived. Pick up where he he left off, spread the culture. RIP
