Prindle 19 mx sail battens

I need to replace my battens of my Smyth Mylar mainsail . I'm assuming the original's being foam sandwiched in fiberglass (tapered) , all broke in a bad weather mishap. I'm not racing but still want battens to match the boats performance .
I want to keep price down due to the sail being on the older side and will purchase matching battens set with new sail in future. 1) Do I go regular pultruded fiberglass or carbon ? 2) Do I go for tapered and if so ,what is the best tapered layout . Of the 9 battens ,is it the 2nd through 5th batten(from bottom) that are tapered ?
Any help will be greatly appreciated..
