Depression is setting in...

Just finished my last trip to the beach and now I have 3 months of cold weather ahead. My boat will sit idle while old man winter has his way. So bummed.

Come up north and you can get a slightly different but equally enjoyable fix. Check this: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=qC0I5PEhkJo

Believe me, though, I'm counting the days until May(!) when the softer water is safe.

Edited by MN3 on Dec 06, 2011 - 07:09 AM.
One of our club members was out for a couple hours on Lake Ontario last Saturday, Dec 3. Then we knocked his boat down for the winter. I've been out Thanksgiving week but I don't have a dry-suit so..............I stayed on the beach.

I on the other hand worship winter. I bought a cat to make summer slightly less miserable for I am a skier. If I were to win the lottery, I would follow winter around the world.

Jesus H C.H.rist, your cojonnes would be up under your armpits! I keep mine on Lake Simcoe, not as big, but way warmer, & I drydocked the 5.7 on the 24th of Oct. The bloody water is less than 10C out in the deep, I'll have ice n my bay in the next two weeks.
My depression comes from the fact that as I type this I'm sitting just outside Speightstown, Barbados. Water is in the 80's, air is 84F, humidex of 95, we have a Hobie 18 Magnum, a Getaway, & a few Waves...& the best the bloody wind can do is 2-3 mph. I can f.ar.t. harder than that! We finally saw 10mph on the edge of a passing CB, big deal I say. The rum & Banks flows freely, but WTF, isn't this supposed to be the land of the trade winds?

Depression from Barbados, C'mon man!!!! I don't believe it. Haha. This might be a sin to say on here but when the wind dies there are always, power boats. Maybe surfing, I'm sure you are staying entertained.

My depression sets during the cold and rainy midwest fall and spring, no matter what do outside you aren't out in those days, I do as much as I can outside hot and cold sail to snowboard and whatever else I find, the fall and spring mark the beginning and end of my indoor basketball season.

I love having all of the seasons, they never seem long enough, but that is usually a good sign that you got your money's worth.

popeyez7My new creation.. "Ice shredder"

popeyez7 that Hobie sail looks a lot bigger than the DN.
How heavy is your mast/sail/boom aloft compared to the DN?
Are skate plank lengths proportional to mast length or sail area?
The one ice boat I have helped rig had a fiberglass reinforced wooden mast that I could just lift with one arm.
I always needed both arms and both legs to step a Hobie mast.
Will we see pictures of your finished rocket sled this winter?

"Ice shredder" indeed! Be sure to shoot video when you are out in any high winds! That looks like a widow maker to me! So, it's GOTTA be fun! icon_lol
~~ I'll take easy for the first couple of times. I gotta grow a couple of "KAHUNIAS". I gotta watch for any weak points !!
Of course I'll shoot vids.... I got plenty of GoPros. The DN mast is about 16' high, The Hobie mast is about 26' I also set it up for both the main sail & jib~ (optional)..... The DN mast I can step that myself, not so with the "Ice shredder". I don't know what the weight is for the Hobie mast/ sail / ETC ETC ... I made the skate plank as long as I could make it -15'6"- I had to cut 3" off each end because of normal cracking on the ends, and the main lenght is 20' long......... I have vids on YouTube.... 2 for ice sailin... 28 total.. I didn't have a good year AGAIN for soft water sailin icon_confused
http://youtu.be/TG9AI5ICw3g This should take ya to "Youtube"... watch that vid then clk on my name or the 28 videos....... I had some trouble with it a couple of days ago ?? I think they re-did their system?? good luck, If ya have trouble e-mail me direct popeyez7 (at) aol(dot) com ~~~~~~~~~~ Paul

Ice Shredder looks insane! but why stop there? why not take and attach your rigging's right to the square tramp frame of you H16? You would have to extend the width but with a jib rigged up and two men on the tramp it would feel right at home! Someone should try that

Those two Quebecois have lots of experience with Arctic Expeditions, this was not their first, second, or even third mission, though it may well have reached the highest level of insanity.
Here is the English version of the journal, it is obvious that Quebecois is their first language, but it is quite readable.

This brings a new meaning to the hazards of Cat Sailing, I'll stop complaining about unbalanced helm from now on!
