Windfinder

Decent site for planning ahead, though wind speed is tough to predict.

The "forecast" and the "super forecast" can differ. The "super forecast" is supposed to be more accurate.

I use www.windguru.cz to plan my windsurfing/cat sailing days and find it surprisingly accurate. Unbelievably, way more accurate than the weather forecasts!

Hey guys thanks for the great links, especially that first one... peace

I have two different apps on my phone that will show significantly different wind speeds for the same area. I have seen as much as a 10mph variance. I have found that noaa is the most accurate for my area as al.reed has already stated.

Actually Windfinder bases its forecast on NOAA. "The Forecast is based on the GFS-model of the American Weather Service NOAA." There should be little difference in the predictions. All the historical data comes from NOAA.

Most all of these apps and websites rely on the same data. You need to know your weather station is consistent. In my area Portsmouth RI for northerly wind, my favorite station is totally unreliable. So I check it against 3 others around Narragansett Bay. My favorite app is Wind Alert, Hands down best website for forecasting a day or two out. The Iphone app is Ok too.
