old nacra numbers

just a thought on the pre-1986 nacra hull numbers

they start with TRR and then a letter denoting the boat type

i wonder if the TRR stood for something like Tom Rolland Racing

the first boat nacra made was the 5.2. the old 5.2's start with TRRC so here's a guess on what the rest could be, anyone please feel free to go outside, check their boat and correct me

TRRA - alpha cat 18'
TRRB - alpha cat, 15?' OR nacra 36

TRRC - nacra 5.2
TRRD - nacra 5.8???
TRRE - 18sq with 17' hulls
TRRF - nacra 5.0???
TRRG - nacra 5.7???
TRRH -
TRRJ -
TRRK - 18sq 18' or 5.5

then in 1985 the factory changed places, hulls became foam sandwich and the hull numbers started

NACA - 5.0
NACB - 5.2
NACC -

My 18' Alpha Cat has the following Number:

TRRA02130675

Sail #213
Year 1975
In case it's useful - my 5.2 is NACB3026I687 with the digit before the 687 being an i (eye). The boat is an '87, sail# 3026.
ok, guys and girls looks like we'll start a cheap and dirty nacra number list and keep it here on thebeachcats

if you have a number post it in this thread and i'll try to to add it to the list, eventually it show up on google for people searching for nacra numbers

Tom Rolland started making revolutionary catamarans in the 70's. First the monster fast R36 and 18' alpha cat.
He also tried to launch a professional catamaran racing league. NACRA, north american catamaran racing association.
This didn't work out but the name stuck for his revolutionary boats that were the forerunners for the modern F18 catamaran.

I just picked up an '86 5.8: NACD0869K586

Interestingly, even with the 'NACD' prefix and the build date, I'm not sure it has cored hulls? If it does, it's a very thin core.

It's really easy to tell. Look inside the inspection port behind the rear beam where you can see a stringer on the side if it is a glass boat, or look at the bulkhead, which will identify if it is foam core.

Do the foam cored Nacras not have stringers at all? or are they just not visible in the rear of the boat?

That's right, no stringers. I would defeat the purpose to have both.
