About the place:
Lake Pepin is the wide part of the Mississippi River running from about Red Wing, MN 25 miles south. With a dam and locks on both ends it truely is a lake. Ranging from 1.5 to 3 miles wide it offers some larger water sailing in the Land of 10,000 (small) Lakes. Several spot to put-in around Lake City, including a sandy beach at the Lake City Yacht Club. Nice scenary with bluffs on both sides of the lake and several park beaches to pull up on if desired. Pepin, WI, about six miles south and across the lake offer the Pickle Factory Bar and Grill as a stopping point. Lots of larger sailing yachts but no other cats. Limited barge traffic but was not an issue.
