About the place: Lake Travis is the most popular of the Texas Hill Country lakes. On holiday summer weekends, it can be downright busy. However, it is has excellent water quality, beautiful views, and lots of lake access. Windy Point Park is the most popular beach for launching catamarans, it is a point that sticks out into the largest open section of the lake. Windy Point Park was completely re-vamped about 8 years ago, and is a sailing-only park. There is an excellent ramp, pea gravel beach, and shaded picnic shelters aloThe lake is about 60 miles long, although about 10 miles up the lake it starts to look like a wide river. Winds in the summer are generally from the south, building in the afternoon. Fronts that come through in fall and spring make for more exciting sailing. There are many alternate ramps on the north side, fewer on the south side. Most are back in coves, and not great for catamaran launching, due to the winds being sheltered.
