About the place:
Lake Buchanan is the largest lake in the "Texas Hill Country". It has clear, clean water, and is not crowded, as Lake Travis can be, which is much nearer to Austin. Llano County Park is a free park, with minimal facilities. It is patrolled by the sheriff's deputies. It has a boat ramp which is OK till lake level drops below 1010, and a beach area that is good for catamarans regardless of lake level. The local Hobie fleet 64 from Austin holds a regatta at this park in April every year. Lake Buchanan is about 7 miles long, about 3 miles across. When the wind builds, wave conditions on this lake can be like a coastal bay.. Next to Llano County park is Blackrock Park, which has more facilities and a park host, but charges for them.
