About the place: Heckscher State Park is located on Long Island on the south- shore.It is on the Great South Bay overlooking Fire Island. Sail the bay or cross over to Fire Island and eat and swim in the Atlantic Ocean. Heckscher is also the site of the Midsummer Catamaran Classic in July. When entering the park look for parking lot number 7. You can launch off the beach or at the marina 5 minutes away. If you need a hand there should always be someone who is available to help you. To get to the park go out on the Long Island Expressway to exit 57 and then take Veterans Highway to the first light after the railroad bridge. Turn right at the light and follow the road south to Montauk Highway. Turn right on Montauk and go under the bridge and onto Heckscher State Parkway going south.
