Skyblazer XLT Aerial Flare |
They're not the highest and brightest on the market, but they are very portable and confortably carried. This was a high priority for us when shopping for signal flares. Let's face it, if you are on a small catamaran, and need a flare, you are not going to be grabbing a gun from the rack in the downstairs galley. You'll most likely be in the water, and will need one that's available on YOU. |

This small flare is 1" in diameter, and just under 5" when not extended. Once extended,
a gasket equipped cap unscrews to reveal the pull chain ignition. The flare will
launch up to 500 ft, give a 10 second burn, and is visible to 28 miles. A package of
3 fits nicely in our "fanny packs" when we are ocean sailing, and they will float if
dropped.
Available in packages of 3 for $15.49 at West Marine. Bill Mattson mattson@earthlink.net |
