Still doin' the bimonthly thing, but still doin' it just the same. Hopefully, we will have more material once sailing season hits high gear.

This month, Rob Morse gives us an account of Ocean racing from a "newbie" standpoint. I started racing last year, and can really relate to this one. I've assured Rob that his cover photo will bring fame and fortune, so if your a movie producer looking to do a sailing film, I can put you in touch with Rob.

Remember Chris Bolton's "Florida Road Trip". I wonder if Chris does? Check out his account of yet another attempt at getting a bunch of boats towed long distance with one vehicle. Thanks to Chris for another very entertaining read.

Problems righting your boat? A leaking mast can make it an impossible task. If you suspect a leak, and are wondering what to do about it, you'll get the answers in this month's article by Chris Vanepps.

Ever want to get away for a few days? Just you and your boat? Ted Knowlton did just that with a 2 day solo cruise around Martha's Vineyard. This sounds like a very memorable trip, and I'd love to hear more of these!

On The Wire would like to extend a warm welcome to our newest commerical advertiser, Island Winds Sailing Club. This company will set you up on an affordable camping/sailing trip on St. Lucia in the West Indies. Make sure and click the banner to visit their site. If you decide to make the trip, let them know where you heard about it, and by all means let us know how much fun you have!

Sail fast, sail safe,

It looks like El Nino has played the ultimate April Fools Day Joke on the U.S. this year. Where as we here in California are normally looking to our first sail of the year right about now, we have some torrential downpours. On the east coast, where snow is normally still sitting on many a catamaran, temps in the 80's are abounding. You would think "mud sailing" may become a rational sport the way things are going. Regattas are being postponed due to trees floating in the water and bacteria levels on the rise. But we'll recover, the ocean and lakes will recover, and sailing will be good again.

If you can't sail, at least you can read about people who are trying to sail and take their boats on long hauls. Chris Bolton tried, as attested in this months magazine, and recants some really funny stuff. As Bill indicates in this issue's 10 list, we start acting pretty weird when deprived of our sport, kinda like cabin fever in the north west and east. (I've just about worn out my copy of "Wind".)

For those of you who can sail now, sail safe and write to us about it. Keep an eye out for power lines and lightning, make sure your rocket launchers are secured tight, and have fun.
