Gosh. We're blushin'!

Oh guys, ya'll have really surpassed yourselves. HOTLINE never had nothin' on you, believe. Impressive photomanipulation and everything (PWC article)...

Tami Shelton

The term "photomanipulation" iplies that the PWC destruction photos were faked, when in actuality they were.....uh...yeah, they were faked. Yeah, that's it. They were faked. Honest.

Nice job, Bill. Slick, very slick. In fact, with this Cat Sailor, it almost makes up for loss of the Hotline...
When do we get the "One The Wire" calenders? :-)

Al Bowers

No calenders yet. Been thinking about T shirts though...

Technical Difficulties

Hi Bill -
I added a couple lakes to the "Places to Sail" section of the first issue of "On the Wire", but they didn't show up in the second issue. If I need to resubmit them, let me know, I kept old copies of them. Any idea where they went? (let me guess, the ether).

Paul Miller

Bill,

You probably know this but if you don't: Places to Sail Form is coming up w/o blank lines below first blank for Place to Sail

Very cool site. So much forethought!

Michael Brown

The On The Wire Places to Sail page got hosed up during the update to the October issue. Data was missing from the page, and the entry form was incomplete. Thanks very much for letting us know about the problem.

I have not figured out a way to blame Pineau for this, but I am working on it.

Hi Bill,

I wanted to let you know that it took at least 10 minutes to load your cover to your October ezine at 4PM this afternoon...

Linda M. Ramsay

(This letter was accompanied by valuable information on various graphics utilities)

The size and format of our graphics do need some work to make them quicker. Hopefully, we will get this improved soon using the information you provided. I should point out, however, that the cover is approx 50k. Your timing suggests that your transfer rate is about .08K/sec. I get about 2.5K/sec at 28.8 near the site, and about 1K/sec at 14.4 from 400 miles away. I may need a different graphics package, but it sounds like you need a different Internet Service Provider!

On blowing up PWCs with air-to-air missiles

Kudos to Bill and Frank. We all remember when you were just list members. Given how far back we all go, I was surprised you want to keep the PWC-repellent system to yourselves. Don't think for a moment we believed all that lawyer-ese stuff about it being a joke. Pictures don't lie. We know you just want to have all the fun.

Well done! Jim H-18 "Big Bird"

Great. What was it David Hall had said... ROTFLMAO! That's what we did when we read the PWC bit. Really funny. Great job you guys...Keep it up!

Matt Miller

Bill and Frank:

You guys are just plain great! I needed a laugh like that!

I'll try to keep you posted on the PWC issue as it develops in the NW. There might be a number of "leads" for selling these systems to many San Juan Islands residents. Are you offering any distributorships? I'd love to be your local rep...

Thanks again for the great work!

Cheers, Jeff

Sorry, but the legal staff at On The Wire has decided that running distributorships for rocket propelled explosive devices carries a bit too much liability.

Lawyers!

I am nearly unable to breathe....write....or think I am laughing so GD hard. That is the funniest Hobie piece ever written. Not just that "I" have read I mean EVER! This should be sent to Sailing World, Performance Sailor magazine, Catamaran sailor and more. I am simply in tears....

A couple of quick questions if I may:

Why was the AIM 9-M chosen over the AIM-120?
Why wan't a laser guided tracking system w/ heads up display used instead of the heat seeker? (Frank would still have those Bermudas)...

Mark Michaelsen
Small Craft Advisories

The AIM-120 is a really nice piece of work. Unfortunately, they go for about $390,000 a pop ($3000 more for the optional chrome fins). Since the AIM 9-M ran us $50,000, we figured it would give us "more bang for the buck" so to speak.
As for laser targeting, we did play with this earlier without much success. The PWC riders figured out early that they could diffuse the beam by turning sharp and kicking up water spray. So we still recommend the heat seeker. Just put out the cigars and save the BBQ for later.
By the way, consider the $50,000 a long term investment. It now seems that whenever we arrive at the "test range" the PWCs, well actually ALL watercraft, vacate the area upon seeing us.
