"10 Yards to Heaven"
or "Pitchpolers Couldn't Care Less"

Here is a great recipe for serving at the beach on cool days while watching your favorite Football game this winter. Just entered it in the Good Morning Texas Armchair Quarterback Contest. We'll see what happens!

  • 3 lbs. Eckridge or smoked sausage (sliced diagonally)
  • 3 large tomatoes (cut in wedges)
  • 1 green bell pepper (seeded and sliced into strips length wise)
  • 6 jalapeno peppers (seeded, devained and sliced length wise)
  • 3 tblspns juice from jalapenos
  • 1 tblspn tabasco
  • 1 tblspn A1
  • 1 tablespn worchester sauce
  • 1 12 oz beer (of your choosing)

Adjust HOT ingredients to personal taste and tolerance.

  • Philadelphia cream cheese
  • one loaf rye bread

Combine all ingredients in large pan or crock pot. Heat to just boiling and then lower heat to simmer until all is soft and combined, stirring occasionally.

Make at least three hours in advance of game. Use of crock pot takes much longer but is great for serving and keeping hot.

Place bowls, cake plates, "10 yds" (in crock pot to keep hot or soup turine), and tray with cream cheese surrounded with rye bread on table and let guests help themselves. Cream cheese may be placed on lettuce to add "look". Rye and cheese are to tone down the heat a little and compliment the "10 yds".

A delicious snack on a cold winter day while watching ANY game or for warming those "cockels" after a great Fall sail in cold waters.
