Rigging/Launching Sequence for the Hobie 18

Rig the Boat

1. LOOK OVERHEAD! If the mast makes contact with a power line bad things will happen. You will probably be killed.

2. Remove boat covers

3. Disconnect jib sheet blocks from fore stay

4. Move base of mast to mast pivot, insert mast pin

5. Raise mast & attach fore stay

6. Attach boom to mast. Rig Boom, attach main block to main traveler, insert end of main sheet through swivel jam, through main traveler, through deadeye, and fix with a figure 8

7. Attach rudders, attach rudder extension, lock rudders in up position

8. Fix dagger board bungy cords through deck hole with a figure 8. Insert dagger boards up to the marks; the up position.

9. Make sure roller furling line is fully wound, hoist jib, secure halyard

10. Furl jib by pulling furling line out of furling mechanism until jib is fully wound, feed line through jam, tie figure 8

11. Attach jib sheet blocks to jib clew

12. Splay main on the trampoline in preparation to hoist main, secure with gasket

Prepare to Launch

1. Insert drainplugs

2. Remove mast pin

3. Remove aft 2 tiedowns

4. Stow paddle

5. Stow comfort items (sunscreen, clothing, drinks, snacks)

6. Stow safety items (flares, VHF radio, etc)

7. Stow small parts & tool bag

8. Stow anchor, fenders, and anchor buoy, if needed

9. Stow dock lines

10. Assure main halyard and sheets are free and not tangled.

11. Lock equipment box and trailer hitch

12. Assure sufficient PFDs are on board

13. Make sure drinking water is on board

14. Move boat to water's edge, stop, release remaining 2 tiedowns, launch

Be sure:

1. Someone knows where you are sailing and when you expect to return

2. You have performed a frame of mind adjustment to enjoy what happens without negative emotional response (yelling, whining, etc.) so that others can enjoy it also
