TheBeachcats.com now available on My.Yahoo.com

Contributed by damonAdmin on Mar 28, 2004 - 11:16 PM

Yahoo.com chooses TheBeachcats.com as a source for sailing news.

Yahoo! recently introduced a new content feature to their My.Yahoo.com page that allows users to display RSS news feeds directly in their customized page. I was pleased to find that TheBeachcats.com is listed as a news source for keywords 'sailing' and 'catamaran'. This means that news, stories, announcements, and tips that you submit to TheBeachcats.com will get even wider readership than before. TheBeachcats.com was already syndicated by major news syndicators like Moreover, News Now (UK), and Syndic8.com so this will bring catamaran sailing news to even more people.

Of course, I would like it if everyone just used TheBeachcats.com as their home page, but this is the next best thing. You can display up to 10 headlines from this site directly in your My.Yahoo.com page. And don't forget that you can syndicate the headlines from TheBeachcats.com on your own website by following the directions at Web Syndication Instructions.

2004 Beach Catamaran Regatta Calendar

Contributed by damonAdmin on Jan 12, 2004 - 10:50 PM
Time to add your catamaran sailing events to the regatta calendar. As soon as you know your dates for 2004, make sure and add them to the calendar. The more info you include, the easier you make it for your fellow catamaran sailors to make plans.

TheBeachcats.com is seeking catamaran sailing experts.

Contributed by damonAdmin on Nov 05, 2003 - 03:14 PM
If you are an enthusiastic catamaran sailor, and you would like to promote your particular catamaran class, TheBeachcats.com would like to help. By acting as a "guest expert" here, you can spread the word about your favorite beachcat and help promote catamaran sailing in general.

If your catamaran sailing group has a newsletter or tip sheet, be sure and add TheBeachcats.com to your distribution list. You can also submit stories about your class or organization using the submissions form. If you know of an expert in a particular class, please let them know about this opportunity.

Poll - Are you a dues paying member of any sailing organization?

Contributed by damonAdmin on Oct 27, 2003 - 09:52 AM
I'd like to get an idea of how many visitors to this website are current, dues paying, members of ANY sailing organization. This includes anything from your local club or Hobie Fleet, US Sailing, international organizations, even yacht clubs. You can vote in the poll at the right of this page, or vote here in the sailing organization poll.

New Poll -- Do you use a wind indicator?

Contributed by damonAdmin on Jun 23, 2003 - 11:47 AM
I recently participated in a catamaran regatta where I managed to start both days of catamaran racing whithout my trusty Hobie Bridle Fly. (That's the red mylar one in the Hobie Catalog, part CM7703 $15.00) I found it much more difficult to determine my best tacking angles sailing both upwind and down. Do you use a bridle fly or wind indicator such as a Telo Cat on your catamaran? Please vote in the new poll at the right of this page.

If you are a catamaran sailor with thoughts on this issue, as always, you can comment by clicking on the "comments" link.

Free Web Hosting for beachcat sailors, clubs and fleets.

Contributed by damonAdmin on Apr 22, 2003 - 04:39 PM
A lot of catamaran sailing clubs, catamaran associations, Hobie Cat Fleets, and individual catamaran sailors would like to have a sailing website but don't have the budget to pay for hosting.

Since I feel that every catamaran sailing organization and individual catamaran sailor should be able to have a home on the web, I've decided to offer free web-hosting and email to any non-commercial website primarily devoted to catamaran sailing.

Poll results say more found TheBeachcats.com by links.

Contributed by damonAdmin on Mar 04, 2003 - 05:25 PM
The Poll that is titled "How did you find this site" revealed the fact that more people found TheBeachcats.com from links on other sites than other means. I was surprised by this, figuring that most folks would have come to the site from either the beachcats mailing list, or search engines.

A big thanks to all who have put a link to TheBeachcats.com on their website. The Catamaran Links Directory here at TheBeachcats.com makes it easy for you to add sites you feel would interest our members. Webmasters, please consider linking to TheBeachcats.com on your sailing related sites.

Catsail.com donates content to TheBeachcat.com

Contributed by Damon Linkous on Oct 28, 2002 - 11:46 AM
Bill Mattson, long-time publisher of the On The Wire Ezine for catamaran sailors at Catsail.com, has announced that he will no longer publish the magazine. He has generously donated all the archives and material from On The Wire to TheBeachcats.com.

I would like to formally thank Mr. Mattson for entrusting the results of years of hard work to TheBeachcats.com. I have added a link to a complete mirror of everything that was on Catsail.com to the main menu of this site. If you never had the pleasure of reading Bill's Ezine in the past, I suggest you take a look now.

Call for Content!

CALL FOR CONTENT!

The calendar is nearly empty, now is your chance to announce regattas or other beachcats events. The calendar is proving to be a very popular information source for our members. Please submit any events still scheduled for this year, and if you already have dates for 2003 go ahead and submit them also.

Got something to sell? Why not place a FREE classified ad with picture while people are still sailing? Earn some money to pay for that winter project.

I'm planning to use the Bookstore as a reference point to start book discussions on the Beachcats mailing list. So add your favorite sailing related book (especially beachcats books) to the bookstore.

Anybody have any ideas for a new poll?

What's your favorite part of www.TheBeachcats.com? What would you like to see here?

Bradenton and Anna Maria, FL, launching locations

There are a few places to launch a catmaran aside from the local boat ramps. Here are the one's I've used fairly often...

Yahoo down or at least flaky (03/25/2002)

Contributed by Lance on Mar 25, 2002 - 03:15 PM

Looks like the Yahoogroups list is not quite working properly. I made some posts early this morning that did not go through and there has been only one other post made since midnight.

I don't know how much of a pain it would be for Damon but I would much rather have our list here rather than at Yahoo if we could keep most of the same features (archive search, read & post from web, picture and file archive). A bonus would be to have an email address from here as well. What does everyone think?

----comment from Damon----

Thanks Lance, I can handle all the features you mention except posting from the archives.

I am considering offering TheBeachcats.com email addresses, they would include POP3, IMAP, and webmail interfaces so you could use "Yourname@TheBeachcats.com" from anywhere. I can't do that for free however, and neither can Yahoo, starting April 24th they start charging $30 per year for "Yourname@Yahoo.com" POP3 service.

I could match that and maybe put together some other TheBeachcats.com packages like your own website named either www.TheBeachcats.com/Yourname or Yourname.TheBeachcats.com. I would appreciate comments on this subject.

Remember, to comment on this article you need to be logged in.

We've had a few links submitted but very little other content so far. Please submit Links, Stories, Product Reviews, Tips and Tricks etc., so we can make this site a great resource.

If you've contributed something good to the Beachcats mail list in the past please put it on this site. If you know of something you think belongs here, but you didn't write it, please contact the author for permission and then post it here for the benefit of everyone.

If you have questions about submitting content, post them as comments to this story so everyone can learn.

passwords on new site

Contributed by eidietis on Mar 05, 2002 - 05:42 PM
No one will ever log in if they have to remember these ridiculous passwords. Are we trying to get into the pentegon computer? I hope I am overlooking a way of changing password.
eidietis
Why yes, you are missing a simple way to change the initial password! Click on "Your Account" at the top, and then click on "Change Your Info" and look all the way to the bottom of the page. Fill in both password blocks with your desired password and click submit. Thanks for the question, everything is new to all of us. Of course it's all obvious to me because I built it, but I need to know of anything that doesn't work as you'd expect, or is just plain annoying like the password thing. Damon Linkous, Moderator
